Edb, Post Malone or The Prodigy: from (today) Friday, the Zürich Openair will be attracting local names as well as international cult bands to the nightlife. Over two weekends, there will be concerts ranging from German rap to cinematic raves.
Swiss acts make up a considerable part of the Zurich Openair line-up. Probably the best known are Patent Ochsner and Lo & Leduc. One of the most exciting acts is probably Leila from Bern, who has been making a name for herself for two years with her pop and sometimes dark lyrics. Or To Athena from Lucerne, who won a Swiss Music Award in 2023 with their poetic chamber pop music. Finally, Edb will also be taking to the stage at the Zurich Openair with his indie pop in dialect. The musician has already performed on a number of festival stages this summer.
Of course, it is above all the international names that make people sit up and take notice. Big names such as British pop musician Rita Ora, who will be performing on the second weekend of the Openair, will take to the main stage. Or the US rapper and musician Post Malone, who is one of the really big names. He started out with hip-hop, but then developed into a pop musician. He continues to celebrate success.
Nina Chuba, Deichkind, Scooter
However, the majority of non-Swiss acts come from Germany. Some of them know how to rap. Either in a mainstream-oriented way, peppered with dancehall or R 'n' B, like Nina Chuba. Then there's street rap with a pop twist, like Apache 207.
For those who prefer it electronic, clubby and political at the same time, Deichkind will take to the stage. While Nina Chuba is part of the new German hip-hop and pop generation, the Hamburg band has been active since 1997 and most people will at least be familiar with their hit "Leider geil".
Other cult bands will also be playing club music. On the first weekend, Scooter, also from Germany, will provide the beats from the 90s, somewhere between hardcore techno and Eurodance. On the second weekend, The Prodigy will bring rave music. Their driving songs with their characteristic breaks have already provided the soundtrack for numerous films, including "The Matrix" (1999), "Charlie's Angels" (2000) and "Kick-Ass" (2010). At the Zurich Openair, the cinematic dance music becomes reality.
