Viotti has initially signed a two-year contract as the new General Music Director of Zurich Opera House for the 2028/2029 and 2029/2030 seasons. The term of the contract is based on the current term of office of Artistic Director Matthias Schulz. This was announced by Zurich Opera House on Monday.

Viotti is no stranger to Zurich. He has directed productions such as "Werther" (2018), "Die Csárdásfürstin" (2020) and "Die tote Stadt" (2025). He is currently conducting the new production of "Die Fledermaus".

He has also conducted productions at La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera and the Semperoper Dresden. He has worked with orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the symphonic field.

Viotti was born in Lausanne in 1990 into a Franco-Italian family of musicians and originally studied piano, singing and percussion in Lyon. He trained as a conductor in Vienna and Weimar. His awards include Newcomer of the Year at the International Opera Awards in 2017. Viotti made his debut as an opera conductor in Valencia with "Faust".

Viotti and the Orchestre de la Suisse romande opened the new Noda concert hall in Sion at the end of August. He conducted "Minuit en plein ciel bleu" by the Upper Valais composer Andreas Zurbriggen.
