Matteo Giubellini and Florian Langenegger finish 10th and 16th in the men's all-around final. Giubellini is just over one point short of an Olympic diploma.
The 19-year-old from Aargau improved on his already strong 12th place in the qualification by a further 0.3 points. Only on parallel bars, where he scored 14.033 points, 0.5 points less than on Saturday, did he still have more than a little room for improvement. For his part, Langenegger, who had beaten Noé Seifert to the final in the qualification, scored 81.864 points, practically the same as four days ago.
Gold went to Japan's Shinnosuke Oka (gold), with the other medals going to China's Zhang Boheng and Xiao Ruoteng. Japan's Daiki Hashimoto, the 2021 Olympic champion, came away empty-handed in sixth place, as did the fourth-placed Ukrainian Illja Kovtun, who missed out on bronze by 0.2 points.
For Oka, it was his second gold medal at the Games two days after his triumph in the team competition. At the same time, the 20-year-old ensured that the Olympic gold in the men's all-around went to Japan for the fourth time in a row. Before Oka and Hashimoto, Kohei Uchimura had won twice in a row.
