FC Basel disappointed at the start of the season and deservedly lost 3-2 at Lausanne-Sport.

It was a first matchday that could hardly have gone worse for FCB. Fabio Celestini's team, which had high expectations of itself after the pleasing final phase of last season and what was perceived as good preparation, was at a loss against Lausanne-Sport. Even after the Vaud side had significantly reduced the tempo after the break, the Baslers still managed to do little of note. The 2:3 was only scored in the 87th minute with a penalty, which was converted by double goalscorer Thierno Barry.

The important part of this match took place in the first half, in which Lausanne were clearly better than FCB. After less than two minutes, Ludovic Magnin's team played through for the first time and made it 1-0 early on thanks to Teddy Okou, who was on loan from Lucerne. Lausanne continued to be responsible for most of the dangerous moves. Fousseni Diabaté doubled the lead midway through the first half and Kaly Sène made it 3:1 shortly before the break.

Ironically, Basel's difficulties in this match were particularly evident after the 2-1 scoreline. After an unsuccessful intervention by Lausanne goalkeeper Karlo Letica, Barry scored his first goal in the 43rd minute, a goal that was not on the cards. The new hope lasted just 75 seconds before the Basel defense found itself in a 2:3 situation. Diabaté and Sène combined skillfully to make it 3:1.
