MATCH OF THE WEEK. The Zurich derby took place in a worthy setting at the Letzigrund in front of 3096 spectators. Despite falling behind early on, FCZ retained the upper hand with a 4:2 victory. The record champions turned the game around against last season's play-off finalists before the break. Sanja Kovacevic's second goal eight minutes into the second half was supposedly the decider. The Grasshoppers came close again through Kayla McKenna, who scored twice. However, Kim Dubs scored the final goal for FCZ seven minutes before the end.

THE GOAL OF THE ROUND. FCZ's 2-1 lead in the derby against Grasshoppers was a curious one. In injury time of the first half, Sanja Kovacevic stepped up for a corner kick - and converted it straight into the goal. As spectacular as the goal was, Lauren Kozal was unfortunate in the Grasshoppers goal.

RANKING. Servette Chênois are seven points clear at the top of the table following the defeat of their nearest rivals Grasshoppers. The Geneva side won their home game against reigning champions Young Boys 1-0 and remain the only unbeaten team after twelve rounds of the current championship. Following their victories, FCZ and FCB are still three points behind Grasshoppers and one point behind YB. Thun are still waiting for their first win of the season after losing 3-1 to Basel and are two points behind Aarau, who lost 1-0 to St. Gallen and are five points behind third-bottom Lucerne, who lost 4-1 to newly promoted Rapperswil-Jona.

WINTER BREAK. The Women's Super League enters the winter break after twelve rounds. The league will resume on February 7, 2026.

Swiss women in foreign leagues

GERMANY. Leela Egli gave Freiburg the lead in the Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg with a remarkable goal. The 18-year-old scored in the 12th minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top right-hand corner of the goal. However, the third goal of the season from the three-time international did not earn the Breisgau team any points. In the end it was 3:1 for Wolfsburg.

ENGLAND. Livia Peng was back in goal for Chelsea in place of the injured regular goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. Despite having the upper hand (30:4 shots), the Londoners suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat at home to third-bottom Everton. The 23-year-old was not at fault for the goal conceded in the 12th minute.

ITALY. Two Swiss players were on the pitch in the top-of-the-table match between leaders AS Roma and runners-up Juventus Turin. However, both Alayah Pilgrim for Roma and Lia Wälti for the team from Piedmont failed to score in the 1-1 draw. For Pilgrim, it was her first appearance since breaking her nose, which caused her to miss the national team's training camp.

SPAIN. Sydney Schertenleib made her second consecutive appearance in the starting eleven in Barcelona's 2-0 win over Tenerife. The 18-year-old caught the eye with some skillful dribbling until she was substituted after around an hour, but it didn't pay off. The goals only came in the closing stages.

A new face

Emil Inauen - the father of national team player Naina Inauen - will become the new coach of FC Thun on January 1. The 53-year-old Swiss-Norwegian dual national has been given a contract in the Bernese Oberland until the summer of 2027, as the club announced during the week. Inauen replaces Julien Marendaz, who was released in mid-November. The new head coach has his work cut out for him at the bottom of the table during the winter break. It's a good thing that he knows his way around adverse conditions: in Norway, the Appenzell native blossomed into one of the best sled dog racers in the world. There will be no shortage of stamina and perseverance.
