FC Winterthur secure an important victory in the relegation battle.

The 1-0 win at Grasshoppers in the final qualifying round saw the bottom club close to within three points of both GC and Yverdon.
There was little in the way of goals in the basement duel at the Letzigrund, with much of the action taking place in midfield for a long time. It was therefore not surprising that very little made the difference. Two actions were decisive for Winterthur: the first shortly after the break, when young Grasshopper Tim Meyer unfortunately allowed a pass towards his own penalty area to pass, from which Nishan Burkart profited. The Winterthur striker scored with a composed finish alone in front of goalkeeper Justin Hammel.
The second scene that went against GC took place in the 82nd minute: Giotto Morandi failed to beat Winterthur keeper Stefanos Kapino with a penalty after Loïc Lüthi had been fouled in his own penalty area. All in all, GC's reaction after the 0:1 was not compelling enough to earn a point and the small victory that came with it.
The relegation race now promises plenty of excitement in the final five rounds, including another clash between GC and Winterthur.
