Matthias Aeschbacher wins the second Bergkranzfest of the season at Schwarzsee. Marius Frank and Sinisha Lüscher triumph at the Aargau Cantonal Festival in Menziken.
The 33-year-old Aeschbacher reached the final round at Schwarzsee thanks to four wins and one defeat. After five fights, he had the same number of points as Bernard Kämpf, but because he defeated the latter in the fifth round and never lost, the judges decided in his favor for the final round. There he faced 19-year-old Michael Moser - like him an Emmental native - whom he defeated after just under two minutes. Moser attacked with a leapfrog, but the veteran countered strongly.
Aeschbacher, who took part in the final round at the 2022 Confederation in Pratteln, celebrated his first wreath victory since June 2023 and his 16th overall. He had already triumphed at Schwarzsee in 2019. "The training, the form curve, everything fits," said Aeschbacher in an interview with Swiss television. He told himself simply not to get nervous. He was all the more pleased that it had worked.
Moser, who had won the Oberaargau wrestling festival 15 days earlier, fell back to 4th place due to the defeat in the final round. The fact that he has already won 22 wreaths despite his young age underlines his great potential.
Fabian Staudenmann, who had started as the top favorite, finished in 2nd place, tied on points with Marcel Räbsamen. The winner of last year's jubilee Schwingfest was doomed by the fact that he was unable to defeat Andy Signer and Räbsamen. Staudenmann had previously triumphed at both the Mittelländisches Schwingfest and the Stoss.
At the Aargau Cantonal Festival, Marius Frank only needed a short time to win the final round against Andreas Döbeli. The 20-year-old Frank won the festival together with the dark-skinned Sinisha Lüscher, who was born in 2006. It was the first wreath victory for both men from Solothurn.
