Inter Milan with Manuel Akanji and Yann Sommer secure the championship title ahead of schedule. After beating Parma 2-0 in the 35th round, the Nerazzurri can no longer be displaced from the top.
Marcus Thuram in stoppage time of the first half and Henrich Michitarjan ten minutes before the end provided the home team with the acclaimed goals at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, as they kept a clean sheet for the 17th time in the championship.
Central defender Manuel Akanji and goalkeeper Yann Sommer played a key role in this and the successful defense of the title. Like full-back Federico Dimarco, who has a past at FC Sion, they were among the cornerstones of Christian Chivu's team, which has the fourth-best defense in the league with only 31 goals conceded. Combined with by far the best offense in the league (82 goals), the title was the logical consequence - even if the start to the season was anything but good with two defeats from the first three games.
With three rounds to go, Inter lead the table by twelve points from Napoli. The southern Italians secured the Scudetto a year ago, following on from Inter, who have now reclaimed the championship honors. It is the Lombards' 21st league title, their third in the last six years. There is still a large gap between them and record champions Juventus Turin (36 titles).
Inter still have a chance of winning the double. On May 13, they will face Lazio in the Coppa Italia final in Rome.
