Partial success for the Philippine curlers: the team led by Alan Frei secures 1st place in the pre-qualification for the Olympic Games in Aberdeen, Scotland.
This means that the team led by Marc Pfister (skip), Christian Haller (vice), Enrico Pfister (second) and Alan Frei (lead) can take part in the qualifying tournament in Kelowna, Canada. If they secure one of the top two places at this event in December, the Philippines will qualify for the Olympic Games in curling for the first time.
Frei, 43, who was born and raised in Switzerland, told Olympics.com: "Now we have the chance of a lifetime. We're playing a qualifying tournament for the Olympics, it's unbelievable."
In Kelowna, the team will face participants from China, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Poland.
