The Swiss Rowing Association (Swiss Rowing) has appointed Frenchman Alexis Besançon as its new elite head coach. Besançon will assume responsibility for the national teams.
Alexis Besançon (50) takes over from Ian Wright, who made the job available after the Summer Games in Paris. The Frenchman will take up his position in March. Besançon will oversee the entire Olympic cycle up to the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. A highlight on the way there will be the 2027 World Championships on Lake Rotsee.
Besançon's first tasks will include forming new teams and integrating young talent into the elite national team.
Besançon has worked as national coach in France for more than 15 years. Under him, Jérémie Azou and Pierre Houin won Olympic gold medals in the lightweight double sculls in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Hugo Boucheron/Matthieu Androdias in the double sculls in Tokyo (2021). Eight years ago, Besançon was named the world's best coach of the year by the International Rowing Federation.
