Ambri Piotta has not forgotten how to win. The Leventines win again in the National League for the first time since December 4. These are the facts from Tuesday's six games.
Ambri-Piotta has not yet buried its ambitions of finishing in the top 10 and thus participating in the play-in for the playoffs. With a 4:0 home win against Zug, the Ticino team won again for the first time in more than a month - and six defeats in a row. In a game that was characterized by caution for a long time, the preliminary decision was made in the middle of the final third with a double strike. Within 138 seconds, Dominic Zwerger and Manix Landry increased the lead from 1:0 to 3:0. Michael Joly had beaten Zug's goalie Leonardo Genoni with a penalty in the 34th minute to take the lead, and the 4:0 was a "technical goal" into an empty net.
EVZ, on the other hand, had a completely botched start to the new year. The third game resulted in the third defeat. The weakness in finishing is striking: against Lausanne, Kloten and now Ambri, only one goal was scored, the Biancoblu even remained without a goal for the first time this season.
ZSC thanks to a lightning start
The ZSC Lions have often struggled against Ajoie, the league's perennial bottom team. Not this time. The Swiss champions dominated the opening period in the Jura at will and were 4-0 up by the first break thanks to goals from Malgin (on the powerplay), Balcers, Baechler and Lehtonen. In administrative mode, the Zurich team ultimately secured their second away win since mid-November with a 5:3 victory.
Davos morale unrewarded
Biel looked like the sure winners for a long time in their home game against Davos. The Seelanders led 3:1 in the final period after a double strike by the Swedes Sylvegard (48.) and Andersson (52.), but the HCD came back and equalized the game thanks to a powerplay goal by Lemieux and Zadina's goal three seconds before the final buzzer. After a goalless overtime, the game was decided in a penalty shootout. The Grisons initially took a 2-0 lead through Ryfors and Zadina. As no Davos player scored again and Sylvegard, Rajala and Hofer scored on the Biel side, the extra point went to the hosts.
SCB efficient for once
In their third meeting of the season, SC Bern emerged victorious against Kloten for the first time. Swedish goalie Adam Reideborn played a big part in the 3:2 win against their table rivals with 32 saves. In contrast to Saturday's 3-0 home defeat against Servette, the Bernese were efficient on offense. In the middle third, the shot ratio was 21:5 in favor of Kloten, but Ludovic Waeber had to admit defeat twice in the hosts' goal. Mats Alge and Häman Aktell scored the decisive goals for the defensively solid SCB to make it 2:0 and 3:0.
Servette with the late turnaround
The Rapperswil-Jona Lakers' injury list has grown to ten players following the recent absences of foreigners Jacob Larsson and Tanner Fritz. Nevertheless, the St. Gallen team was well on the way to making the long trip to Geneva. Zangger gave the visitors a 1:0 lead in the 42nd minute. However, Servette responded with the confidence of three consecutive victories and won the game 3:1 thanks to goals from Manninen, Praplan and Vesey (into the empty net).
Boppart's perfect debut
Fribourg-Gottéron celebrated a spectacular victory against the SCL Tigers, only their second in the last eight head-to-head meetings. In a turbulent game, Langnau took an early lead before 19-year-old Yannik Boppart equalized in his first professional game. The game turned several times in the final third. First Julien Sprunger gave Gottéron a 2:1 lead before the Tigers scored twice within 93 seconds to make it 3:2. Attilio Biasca equalized in the 58th minute to make it 3:3. Fribourg-Gottéron finally prevailed in the penalty shoot-out. Boppart crowned his National League debut by being the first to shoot and scoring. No one else scored after him.
