In 2014, Gjergjaj became the first Swiss heavyweight European EBU champion in Basel's St. Jakob Hall. His most valuable triumph came in September 2023 with the WBF world title.

38 victories (27 of them by knockout) compared to three defeats. He suffered one of these in May 2016 in London's O2 Arena. The Basel-based fighter lost to Britain's David Haye in the second round in front of 20,000 spectators. Gjergjaj was unable to call on his skills in this fight.
