After two defeats at the start, FC Basel pick up their first points of the season against Grasshoppers. It won 3:0 away from home.
One of the most eye-catching players was Basel's new signing Bénie Traoré. After 25 rather uneventful minutes, the 21-year-old Ivorian scored the opening goal. A pass into the penalty area could not be cleared by the Zurich team, allowing Traoré to slot home from close range. The second goal a good ten minutes later was much more beautifully executed. After a throw-in, Thierno Barry ran into the open space with a body trick and was played in perfectly by Traoré.
Barry, who had not been in the squad for the previous match due to a disciplinary measure, also scored the final goal after just under an hour. His long-range shot was deflected slightly by a defender, leaving GC keeper Justin Hammel rooted to the spot and the ball smashed in behind him for the third time.
Barry now has four goals after two appearances and has already scored 15 times in the calendar year, including the Cup. No wonder the 21-year-old Frenchman is being talked about by many clubs. According to media reports, Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne are very interested in signing him and talks are said to be at an advanced stage. Barry's goals may therefore have been a kind of parting gift.
Meanwhile, the home side Grasshoppers were unable to respond. The Zurich side, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are still winless after three rounds.
