Bern's high flight in foreign stadiums comes to an end

SC Bern lost away from home for the first time since December 7. On that occasion, the Bernese lost 3-1 in Lugano, and on their visit to Davos, SCB missed out on an eighth win in a row despite a strong Sandro Zurkirchen in goal, who saved 30 shots. In a turbulent final phase, Bern put everything on one card and played with six against four field players, but Davos' goalie Sandro Aeschlimann held on for the leader's fifth win in a row. Two foreigners, Ryfors and Tambellini, scored for the HCD in the 2:1 victory. Davos will host first-placed Fribourg-Gottéron for the top game before the Olympic break on Sunday.

Gottéron wins with teenager in goal

Fribourg-Gottéron remains the team of the hour. In their home game against struggling Kloten (only 1 win out of the last 9 games), the second-placed Fribourg were able to record their ninth win in a row with a mediocre performance. After Kloten had twice come back from a deficit, Henrik Borgström decided the game in favor of the hosts with a 3:2 in overtime. The 19-year-old Elijah Neuenschwander made his National League debut in goal for Fribourg. The older brother of Biel's forward Jonah Neuenschwander turned away 20 of 22 shots on goal and was voted best player of the game.

ZSC wins in Biel, and loses Marti

Biel remained without a point for the first time in the fourth game under head coach Christian Dubé. The Seelanders also lost their fourth game of the season against the ZSC Lions, losing 1:5 in front of their home crowd. Although the hosts got off to a lightning start when Cajka made it 1-0 after 51 seconds, the Lions equalized shortly before the first intermission and decided the game in the middle third with two power-play goals by Grant and Kukan. ZSC defenseman Christian Marti suffered a stroke of bad luck when he was hit in the face by a puck while short-handed in the first period and was taken to hospital for clarification. A prolonged absence of the two-time World Championship silver medalist would also have an impact on the Swiss Olympic squad.

Efficient Lausanne defeats Zug

In the fourth duel of the season between Lausanne and Zug, the away team prevailed for the first time. The Vaud team won 4:1, and were extremely efficient in the first 40 minutes. Ahti Oskanen beat Leonardo Genoni after 98 seconds to make it 1:0, and Floran Douay increased the lead to 2:0 in the 30th minute with LHC's seventh shot on goal. The shot ratio after two periods was 25:9 (37:21 in total) in Zug's favour. In the 52nd minute, they were rewarded for their enormous effort when Nando Eggenberger made it 1:2. However, Austin Czarnik put the visitors back in front by two goals in the 58th minute, after which Erik Brännström (59th) put the final point on the board with a shot into the empty net.

Although Zug won its first two games under new coach Benoît Groulx after ten consecutive defeats in all competitions, it has now also lost its second encounter this week. It was only Lausanne's fourth win in its eleventh game this year - the second against Zug.

Lakers return to winning ways

The Rapperswil-Jona Lakers returned to winning ways after four defeats thanks to a 5-2 victory at bottom-of-the-table Ajoie. Viktor Rask put the visitors ahead as early as the 3rd minute, and after 33 minutes it was 3:0 thanks to two goals from Tanner Fritz. Nevertheless, things got exciting again: Killian Mottet (47') and Christophe Cavalleri (53') reduced the deficit to 2:3 thanks to an assist from Mottet. However, the Lakers were able to respond in the person of Jonas Taibel with the 4:2 (56') - one of the assists was provided by goalie Melvin Nyffeler. 71 seconds before the end, Rask also made it a two-goal game. Rapperswil celebrated their sixth win in a row against Ajoie.
