After four defeats in a row, the Bern Ice Skating Club wins 5-0 away against Ambri-Piotta. These are the facts of Tuesday's full round.
It came as no great surprise that SC Bern managed to break free in Ambri. Of the last seven home games, Ambri won only one - 3-2 against Ajoie. Against Zug (0:4) and Lausanne (0:3), the Leventines failed to score a goal, just as they did against Bern.
Bern took the lead through Waltteri Merelä after seven minutes. In the second period, Tristan Scherwey (2-0), Hardy Häman Aktell (3-0) and Vidtor Ejdsell (4-0) made it 4-0 with their first goals of the season. And finally, Alain Graf scored his second goal of the season to make it 5-0. Bern won for the second time in the championship under new coach Heinz Ehlers.
Lugano's exploit
Lugano also managed to break free. The Ticino team had lost five of its last six home games and only won 5-4 on penalties against Kloten after trailing 2-4. In the first period, Lugano turned a 0:1 deficit into a 3:1 lead within less than six minutes against Zurich SC, who were once again disappointing. In the second period, the home team quickly increased the lead to 5:1. Marco Zanetti and Jiri Sekac each scored the first goal of the season, David Aebischer and Dario Simion the second.
Stransky's performance
Until shortly before the end, it looked as if HC Davos would lose at home against Biel for the first time this season and fail to score for the first time this season. But the Czech Matej Stransky, the league's top scorer, had something against it: First he equalized with his 13th goal of the season 41 seconds before the final buzzer to make it 3:3 with six against five field players. Then, shortly before the end of overtime, he set up defenceman Sven Jung's winning goal in exemplary fashion.
EHC Biel lost either overtime or a penalty shootout for the first time in its seventh attempt.
All good things come in threes
In the third penalty shootout of the season, Genève-Servette emerged victorious for the first time, as defenseman Vili Saarjärvi was the only one to score in Kloten. The 3-2 victory was Genève-Servette's fourth win in five games since changing coaches from Yorick Treille to Ville Peltonen. In regulation time, the visitors took the lead after just 21 seconds thanks to a deflection from Vincent Praplan, who has a past with Kloten. However, the Zurich Unterlanders were not long in responding: Nolan Diem (5th) and Keanu Derungs (14th) immediately after the expiry of a penalty against Geneva turned the game around in the first period. The 2:1 lead held until the 53rd minute, when Jesse Puljujärvi equalized in Servette's only power play of the game. Kloten conceded their eighth defeat in the last ten games.
Ajoie's second strike
Ajoie recorded their second win of the season in their 17th championship game. After their 4-0 win against Bern, the Ajoulots also defeated SC Langnau 2-1 in Pruntrut. Ten defeats lay between the two victories. Most recently, Ajoie fans had appealed to the board to crack down so that Ajoie could at least be competitive against the league's worse teams. Frederik Gauthier and Julius Nättinen scored the two goals for Ajoie. Santtu Kinnunen scored very late for the SCL Tigers.
Gottéron convincing
HC Fribourg-Gottéron responded to the 6-0 loss in Langnau with a convincing 5-2 home win over EV Zug. Gottéron took the lead after just one and a half minutes and never relinquished it. Attilio Biasca, who joined Fribourg from Zug this season, scored the game-winner to make it 3:1. Marcus Sörensen scored a goal and two assists.
Lakers' streak snapped
After seven wins in a row, the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers lost again. In Lausanne, they lost the chasing duel against LHC 1-2 after overtime. In the second period, Théo Rochette and Julius Honka scored the only two goals within 59 seconds. In overtime, Sami Niku scored the 2:1 winning goal for Lausanne after 63:29 minutes. The Vaud team had previously lost five of their last six games.
