Meillard leads the intermediate classification by five hundredths ahead of Norway's Timon Haugan. The man from Neuchâtel, who lives in Valais, can therefore hope for his first World Cup win of the season. He has already finished second and third twice in the slalom this winter. Nef is 21 hundredths behind his team-mate and has good prospects of finally securing his first World Cup ranking in the top three.

Ramon Zenhäusern gave a sporting sign of life. The Valais skier, who has been beaten so far this winter, finished in 12th place as the third best Swiss skier. Marc Rochat was only marginally slower. The man from Vaud will take a 1.75 second time deficit into the second run. Daniel Yule finished two seconds behind after a botched run. Luca Aerni is likely to miss out on qualifying for the decider with a deficit of three seconds.

Behind the top trio were Haugan's compatriot Atle Lie McGrath, who finished second in the World Championships in Saalbach, Frenchman Clément Noël, the four-time slalom winner this season, and Henrik Kristoffersen, who leads the discipline rankings. He is level on time with Austria's Manuel Feller.
