Three days after the disastrous performance in the 4-0 away defeat to SC Freiburg, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Bo Henriksen parted company. The Bundesliga bottom team is initially relying on an interim solution. The club announced that U23 coach Benjamin Hoffmann will take over training on an interim basis until a new coach is appointed.

Bo Henriksen coached FC Zurich for almost one and a half years from October 2022 before moving on to Mainz. The Dane took over Mainz in February 2024, when the club was in acute relegation trouble. With Henriksen, they managed to avoid relegation.

The 50-year-old sparked real euphoria last season, when Mainz even had a sniff of Champions League qualification with their powerful football. In the end, it was enough to qualify for the Conference League.

However, Henriksen was unable to continue this success story. After twelve rounds of the Bundesliga, Mainz have just one win this season. Mainz have collected almost as many sending-offs (5) as points (6) this season.
