The ground-breaking ceremony in Mollis GL on Wednesday marked the start of construction work for the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival (ESAF) in August 2025. The first step will be to build connecting roads.
The 55,000 square meter site for the Wrestling and Alpine Festival is the airfield in Mollis. The ground-breaking ceremony took place there on Wednesday morning. After a long period of planning, it is now time for implementation: "We are finally allowed to build and that is a unique feeling," Walter Hofmann, Managing Director of ESAF 2025 Glarnerland+, is quoted as saying in the press release announcing the start of construction.
The next step will be the preparatory work for the necessary access roads, sites and utilities. During the summer vacations, a connecting path around 150 meters long will be built, which will allow the access road to the future arena to be extended, including a temporary asphalt surface, according to the ESAF press release.
The milestones this year include the laying of a total of 80,000 meters of utility lines. In the fall of 2024, the grass will be seeded at the site of the future Glarnerland Arena.
Access roads and the future festival site will be paved with a layer of sand and gravel to ensure that the ground remains clean to walk on and stable for transportation and construction machinery even in wet weather. Construction of the Glarnerland Arena will then begin at the end of June 2025.
The "Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest Glarnerland+" will take place in Mollis from August 29 to 31, 2025.
