FC Thun concede their eleventh defeat of the season on the day the trophy is presented. The Swiss champions went down 8-3 in the Bernese cantonal derby against BSC Young Boys.

The air seems to have been out of the Thun team for some time. The sensational champions remain without points in their fourth game of the championship round - their sixth defeat in the last seven rounds. That is one more than in the first 30 games of the season put together.

Thun were initially determined to give their fans something to cheer about in their final home game. The home team responded to the early deficit, which was caused by a misunderstanding between captain Marco Bürki and goalkeeper Niklas Steffen in the very first minute, with a double strike. Thun's top scorer Elmin Rastoder turned the game around by the 13th minute with his 14th and 15th goals of the season.

But the visitors from Bern also wanted to give their fans at least something back for the disappointing season, which will end without a European Cup appearance for YB. Above all, Samuel Essende had something to make up for. The striker, who moved to YB from FC Augsburg in the winter, had failed to score in eleven games for the Bernese side. In Thun, however, he scored three goals. He scored the first goal of the game after winning a running duel and the other two from penalties. Alvyn Sanches, Alan Virginius, Chris Bedia and Christian Fassnacht were responsible for the other goals. The latter scored twice and is now the sole top scorer.

The fact that Thun were no longer able to react in the second half was also due to the sending off of captain Bürki. He had elbowed Sanches in a header duel shortly before the break and was shown the red card following VAR intervention. After an emergency stop by Jan Bamert, Thun were down to nine players for the final quarter of an hour.

At the end of the game, Bürki and Bamert returned to the pitch together with suspended coach Mauro Lustrinelli to receive the first championship trophy in the club's history. However, the circumstances could have been better.
