Host Davos celebrates a 4:1 victory against Team Canada at the Spengler Cup. Nevertheless, it was not enough to win the group.

HCD coach Josh Holden changed three forward lines compared to the previous day's 5-3 defeat against the American college team. However, the problem on Saturday was primarily the defense, where Davos managed to improve. In the final period, things also went according to plan in attack: Rasmus Asplund (46), Yannick Frehner (51) and Matej Stransky (60) scored to give the hosts a prestigious win in the duel between the two record winners of the tournament - both have triumphed 16 times each. The latter scored into an empty net, as the Canadians would have needed a point to qualify directly for the semi-finals.

However, the Davos team did not score high enough to finish Group Cattini as winners. To do so, they would have had to win 5:1 - as they only conceded one goal (5:2 would also have been enough). As runners-up behind the US students, the Davos team will be challenged again on Monday evening, something they were desperate to avoid. Their opponents in the quarter-finals are IFK Helsinki, who lost both games in the preliminary round.

The result after 40 minutes was altogether acceptable. Filip Zadina, who had been unfortunate the day before, put the hosts ahead from close range 3.7 seconds before the first break. However, Davos were unable to carry the momentum into the middle period. On the contrary: Nikolas Braillard equalized for the Canadians in the 22nd minute. Shortly afterwards, Matthew Pesce failed to beat HCD keeper Luca Hollenstein in a 2-on-1 situation, who also made a save in the 40th minute against Anthony Richard, who stormed in on his own.
