Borussia Dortmund beat Heidenheim 4:2 to open the third round of the Bundesliga and temporarily take over at the top of the table.
Dortmund, with Swiss international goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, fought their way to a narrow home win against Heidenheim. However, Kobel is perhaps not entirely satisfied. After two disappointing performances with the national team and conceding six goals in two Nations League games, he had to make his first appearance of the Bundesliga season.
Heidenheim reduced the deficit twice, in the 39th minute with a header from Marvin Pieringer to make it 2-1 and a quarter of an hour before the end with a foul penalty from Maximilian Breunig. After that, Dortmund shook until Emre Can's penalty in stoppage time secured victory.
Karim Adeyemi was the match-winner with two goals in the first half. Dortmund are top of the table for at least one night after their second win in three games.
