Emma Aicher is on the verge of her first World Cup victory. The German is leading the intermediate classification of the second downhill in Kvitfjell with a lead of three hundredths over the American Lauren Macuga.
Lara Gut-Behrami and Corinne Suter were able to improve on the previous day, but it was still not enough for the podium. The duo, who had to settle for 12th and 14th place respectively on Friday, are in 7th and 8th place. Lara Gut-Behrami was promising until the last intermediate time, but ended up half a second behind in the bottom section of the course - a little too much in a race with close time gaps at the top. Priska Ming-Nufer was the third-best Swiss athlete in 14th place.
The 21-year-old Emma Aicher had already made her debut in the first downhill in Kvitfjell. Second place was her first ranking in the top three in the World Cup. Now she is on the verge of becoming the first skier from her country to win a World Cup downhill in five years. The last German winner in this discipline was Viktoria Rebensburg back in Garmisch.
The provisional podium in Kvitfjell is completed by Austrian Cornelia Hütter, the winner of the first downhill.
