After his brace against Basel, Christian Fassnacht is also the match-winner against St. Gallen. The returnee scored to give Young Boys a 1-0 win at home against St. Gallen.
After his goal in the 47th minute, however, Fassnacht knew who he had to thank. Darian Males had prepared the goal in exemplary fashion: He took the cross with his chest, but then surprisingly decided against finishing and skillfully laid it off to Fassnacht. He had an easy shot from close range. It was the fifth goal for Fassnacht, who returned to Bern in the winter after a year and a half with Norwich.
Males had only been on the pitch for just over a minute when he scored. The striker was substituted at the break for Joël Monteiro, who had been injured in the first half.
It was Young Boys' third win in a row and their sixth in the last eight games. Thanks to this strong record, the Bernese have recently climbed up the table place by place. The Swiss champions have thus made up for their unsuccessful start to the season and are once again among the title contenders.
On the other hand, St. Gallen's haul of four points from the last six rounds remains meagre. The team from eastern Switzerland, who have not won in Bern for 20 years, remain in the bottom half of the table and will have to hope that the teams directly ahead of them slip up.
