Last season, FC Winterthur was the surprise guest in the championship round. A year later, the relegation round is already a foregone conclusion six matchdays before the break. It had been clear to Winterthur for some time that it would not be enough for the top 6. Now eight points behind Yverdon, however, the situation in the relegation battle has become even more precarious.

The defeat could have been avoided. Two actions weighed heavily. The first, a ball loss in the forward movement, led to a counterattack by Yverdon in the 36th minute and the 0:1 from Marley Aké. The second, a foul by Tobias Schättin on Anthony Sauthier, was followed by a red card and almost half an hour of being outnumbered. In the 96th minute, Moussa Baradji scored with a long-range shot to make it 2-1 to Yverdon.
