The Grasshoppers are unable to break out of their slump in the derby. The penultimate team in the Super League lost 2-1 to FC Zurich.
In their 293rd clash, both Zurich clubs were looking for an escape after a difficult few weeks. GC made at least as much effort as FCZ and were even the better team in the opening and closing phases. But the Hoppers have mostly lacked that certain something to reward themselves this season. Since the last victory, the 6:2 win at Young Boys in mid-December, Gerald Scheiblehner's team has only scored more than one goal in one match. Against FCZ, they only scored in the 81st minute through Luke Planche to make it 2-1 and at least provide hope until the final whistle.
FC Zurich were a touch more composed, prevented a possible 0:1 thanks to young goalkeeper Silas Huber, took advantage of the first good offensive action through Damienus Reverson after half an hour to take the lead themselves and, shortly after the break, benefited from a mistake by their opponents in the build-up to make it 2:0 through Philippe Keny. Keny, the Senegalese striker who arrived in the summer, scored with a beautiful shot and increased his tally to 11 goals after 20 Super League games.
With the three points from the derby, FC Zurich's prospects are brighter again. The hoped-for place in the championship round is possibly still achievable with a series of successes. For Grasshoppers, on the other hand, everything points to a relegation battle until the end of the season. They are seven points behind Servette, who are directly ahead of GC.
