FCZ cemented their strength on the Zurich pitch with a 2:1 win in the derby against GC.
Two long-range goals in the first half were enough for the favored city club to win. Lindrit Kamberi with his weaker left foot (32') and Antonio Marchesano (38') scored from distance within six minutes. Both times the defenders were too far away, and goalkeeper Justin Hammel didn't look particularly good when conceding the second goal.
The 286th derby - the first in eight months - ended exactly according to script; with a goal difference as always in the last five times and with an FCZ victory as in five of the last six editions. In the end, however, the favorites also had to call on a bit of luck. Awer Mabil, who came on as a substitute after one hour, reduced the deficit to 1:2 after just one minute, after which GC pressed for an equalizer, but without any tangible result.
FC Zurich thus remain on just one defeat of the season and are the new Super League leaders until at least Sunday. GC, on the other hand, have to look to the back of the table after their second defeat in a row against a cantonal rival and are now second bottom.
