The wrestling scene mourns the loss of Stefan Strebel. The former Federal Technical Director has died of heart failure at the age of 49.
The Northwestern Swiss Wrestling Federation confirmed a report by "Blick" to the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Strebel was Technical Director of the Swiss Wrestling Federation until last March. In this role, which he held for six years, the man from Aargau allocated the pairings in the first round for the last time at the Swiss Wrestling Festival in Mollis last August and caused discussion by pairing Michael Moser, who was not a Swiss wrestler at the time, with the wrestling king Joel Wicki.
Because Strebel repeatedly campaigned for changes in the sport of wrestling, it was not without controversy. He had initially put himself forward for the position of chairman at the delegates' meeting last March, but then withdrew his candidacy, thus giving way to Guido Sturny from Fribourg.
