The condition of Hungarian striker Barnabas Varga (29) has stabilized. Varga suffered a fracture below his eye in the match against Scotland (1:0).
The European Championship is definitely over for Varga - even if Hungary should still progress as third in their group. Hungary's federation announced on Monday night that Varga had suffered several fractures to his face plus a concussion and that he would require surgery.
Varga lay motionless and unconscious on the pitch after a collision with Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn with a quarter of an hour remaining. He was carried off with his vision blocked. Hungary's star Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) wore Vargas' shirt with the number 19 after the game. Varga had scored Hungary's equalizer to make it 2-1 in the European Championship match against Switzerland.
