The Italian championship race remains exciting right to the end. In the penultimate round, both title contenders Inter Milan and Napoli missed out on victory.

Inter led 1:0 and 2:1 against Lazio Rome, but had to concede an equalizer in the 90th minute. A hand led to a penalty, with Spaniard Pedro beating Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer for the second time that evening. In stoppage time, Inter's Marko Arnautovic came close to scoring the winner, but it would not come. The Champions League finalists thus missed the golden opportunity to overtake Napoli before the final round.

The leaders also dropped points. Without Noah Okafor (not in the squad), the Neapolitans were held to a goalless draw against Parma, for whom Simon Sohm played in midfield. Napoli were briefly given hope in the 96th minute when the referee pointed to the penalty spot following an intervention in Parma's penalty area. However, he reversed his decision after a video consultation lasting a good four minutes.

The two draws leave Napoli one point ahead of Inter Milan. In the final round next Sunday, Inter will play away at Como and Napoli will host Cagliari. If there is a tie on points, there will be a deciding match.
