Jan Scherrer will not be able to take part in the Freestyle World Championships in the Engadin starting next week. The halfpipe snowboarder has to miss out due to injury.

Scherrer is still suffering from the consequences of a complicated fracture of the rib cartilage. He suffered the injury shortly before the start of this season. It has kept him away from competitions ever since.

Missing out on the home World Championships is another low point in a year marked by sporting and personal setbacks. Scherrer is quoted on the Swiss-Ski website as saying that it sometimes seemed "almost ridiculous" how one misfortune followed another.

The 2022 Olympic bronze medallist and two-time World Championship bronze medallist had to end last season prematurely due to a fracture in his left calcaneus. A few months later, his wife received the shock diagnosis of cancer.
