Lausanne Hockey Club defeats Lugano 4-3 thanks to three goals in the final period and moves closer to qualifying victory. These are the facts from Friday's five National League games.

Lugano led 3:1 in the sold-out Lausanne Arena until the 46th minute - thanks to three goals in the second period within 127 seconds. However, the game got out of hand for the Luganesi in the final period. Goalie Adam Husko initiated the turnaround with a mistake in the 46th minute. In the 55th minute, the leaders equalized in double overtime through Gavin Bayreuther to make it 3:3. With 42 seconds remaining, Damien Riat, the best and most eye-catching player on the ice, made it 4:3 for Lausanne. Bryan Perlini was the only player to score two points (1 goal, 1 assist). Dominik Kahun - who joined Lausanne from Bern this week - made his debut with an assist to make it 1-1.

Aaltonen scores on debut

The other last-minute transfer from this week was also a success: Miro Aaltonen's debut in SCB dress was a complete success. The Finn had only had to take a month off due to a doping ban (cocaine abuse). During this time, he was released by Kloten and immediately signed by SC Bern after his short suspension. The 31-year-old Finn scored five minutes before the end of the game to win 2-1 in Pruntrut against Ajoie. Prior to that, Aaltonen was also on the ice for Bern's early opening goal. Ajoie, who ultimately lost 1:4 (due to two Bernese shots into the empty net in the final period), suffered their fourth defeat in a row, while Bern won for the sixth time in a row against the Jura team.

Gottéron scores again

Fribourg-Gottéron's streak of 15 games with at least one point won was snapped last Saturday. This appears to have been a blip, as the points tally was increased again in the away game in Davos. The 3:2 victory after a penalty shoot-out added two points to the Freiburg team's tally. Lucas Wallmark scored the decisive penalty. Davos took the lead twice through Adam Tambellini and Klas Dahlbeck; Julien Sprunger and Wallmark each found the answer for the visitors from western Switzerland. Davos did not spoil their fans with three home defeats in a row.

Three shorthanders

Thanks to the special teams, EHC Biel recorded a resounding 6:2 victory over EV Zug. Martin Filander's team scored three shorthanded goals (!!!). Nicolas Müller (1:0) and Johnny Kneubuehler (3:0 and 6:2) scored twice for the Seelanders while shorthanded. Jere Sallinen also scored for Biel on the power play. The EVZ, on the other hand, capitalized on seven Biel penalties. Kneubuehler not only scored two short-handed goals, but also contributed two assists and finished the game with a plus-4 rating.

It was the tenth time in the playoff era that a team managed three shorthanded goals in the same game. The last time Lugano achieved this feat was on December 20, 2019 in a 6-3 win over Biel. No team in the National League (and formerly the National League A) has ever managed more than three shorthanded goals.

Servette hopes

The most efficient powerplay in the league struck again: Genève-Servette Hockey Club, champions two years ago, scored two goals from two powerplay chances and won the game against Ambri 4-2. Finn Marcus Granlund contributed two goals and an assist. Geneva thus improved from 13th to 12th place. After four home wins in a row, the Servettiens can still hope to reach the play-in after all.
