Bayer Leverkusen kicked off the 27th round of the Bundesliga with a 3-1 home win over Bochum to cut the gap on leaders Bayern Munich to three points, at least temporarily.

Leverkusen secured the win after the break with goals from Victor Boniface and Amine Adli after Bochum had drawn 1-1 in the 26th minute. Granit Xhaka also played an involuntary part in this. The Swiss playmaker, who became a father for the third time eleven days ago, opened the scoring with a failed header back towards goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

Bayern Munich, who lost to Bochum three weeks ago, are in action at home against St. Pauli on Saturday.
