The organizers are ensuring additional safety on the next but one Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. In Qatar, drivers will have to have their tires changed after a maximum of 25 laps.
According to a press release, the decision was made jointly by those responsible at tire supplier Pirelli, the Formula 1 World Championship and the International Automobile Federation (FIA). "The measure was deemed necessary following an analysis of the tires used last year," said Pirelli. "At that time, several tires, especially the front left tire, had reached the maximum wear level."
The track in Lusail puts a lot of strain on the tires, not only due to the nature of the surface, but also because of the usually high temperatures. Two years ago, the tires were even limited to 18 laps, which led to at least three pit stops during the race, during which 57 laps had to be completed. This year, the drivers will have to change tires at least twice, which also increases the tactical possibilities in the race.
Before the Qatar Grand Prix, the race in Las Vegas is on the program this weekend. The season finale follows a week after the race in Lusail in Abu Dhabi.
