Swiss goalkeeper Livia Peng is moving from Bremen to Chelsea, both clubs have confirmed. The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the English champions.
Peng was named the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga last season by German magazine kicker and has now been rewarded for her good performances with a major transfer. After Zurich, Häcken in Sweden, Levante in Spain and Bremen in Germany, the player from Graubünden will be moving to a fifth country.
Chelsea, coached by Frenchwoman Sonia Bompastor, are a big name. The Londoners won the Women's Super League for the sixth time in a row this season, as well as the Cup. Chelsea's domestic rivals include Champions League winners Arsenal with Lia Wälti. "It's such a big club," Peng is quoted as saying on the Chelsea club website. "Chelsea want to win titles and so do I. We fit well together."
Peng's good performances with Bremen, who were only stopped by Bayern Munich in the final of this year's Cup, also had an impact on the national team. The player from Graubünden, who is in competition with Elvira Herzog, has returned to action in the last two Nations League games. She is likely to start next season as Chelsea's No. 2. In Hannah Hampton, Bompastor has the current England international keeper in her ranks.
