Lucerne secure their first win of the season against promoted Sion. Former Sion player Nicky Beloko, of all people, scored to give the Central Swiss side a 1-0 win.
Beloko benefited from a beautiful pass from captain Pius Dorn. He stole the ball from the hapless Gora Diouf and then showed an eye for a teammate. Just over two minutes had been played in the second half at this point. It was to be the only goal of the match.
Beloko, who made his Super League debut for FC Sion at the age of 17, had to wait a long time for his third goal for Lucerne: he last scored in February 2023. He celebrated his goal - perhaps inspired by the Olympic Games in Paris - with a floor routine.
The visitors then braced themselves against the threat of defeat and came close to equalizing with a shot to the edge of the goal from Cristian Souza. Otherwise, however, Lucerne did not concede much and managed to hold on to their narrow lead. It was the first setback for the Valais side after a furious start with victories against YB (2:1) and Lausanne-Sport (4:0).
