Lugano and the ZSC Lions continue their winning streaks, while Davos remains unbeaten at home. The facts from the last matchday before the national team break.
There have been many changes at Lugano after their disappointing 13th place last season. The Swede Tomas Mitell was hired as the new coach. Initially, the desired effect failed to materialize with seven defeats in the first eight championship games, but Lugano is now the team of the moment in the National League. Thanks to the 6:2 win at home against Genève-Servette, the Bianconeri have now strung together six victories with an impressive goal difference of 28:7. After Servette defender Simon Le Coultre made it 2:3 (46'), Aleksi Peltonen (59') and Dario Simon (60') made everything clear with two "empty netters" to make it 5:2. Lugano had already clearly won the first season duel against Geneva 5:1.
Lions also on a high
The ZSC Lions also continued their winning run. The defending champions won for the fourth time in a row thanks to a 3-0 win in Bern. The 15,645 spectators had to wait until the 42nd minute before the first goal was scored. This was scored by Finnish defender Mikko Lehtonen. Despite 29 shots on goal, the hosts were unable to beat ZSC goalie Robin Zumbühl. The Zurich team won for the fourth time in the current championship, for the first time with Zumbühl in goal. In the last two minutes, Vinzenz Rohrer and Pontus Aberg scored into the empty net to make it 3-0 for the visitors. It was the fourth home defeat in a row for the SCB.
At least the scoring drought ended
Nicklas Jensen redeemed the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers after 257:24 minutes without a goal with the 1:1 (31st) in Davos. In the end, that was little consolation. On the one hand, the Lakers suffered their sixth defeat in a row with the 1:6, but on the other hand they are now the team with the longest goal drought in the NLA since the introduction of the playoffs in the 1985/86 season. Previously, the SCL Tigers had been the "record holder" in this statistic with 243:51 minutes in the 2011/12 season. In the final period, Rapperswil conceded three goals in 172 seconds. Valentin Nussbaumer and Enzo Corvi scored two goals each for HCD. Davos, who had previously lost twice in a row, thus also won their eleventh home game in the current championship. It was their ninth home win in a row against the Lakers.
Kloten doubles up
Kloten beat Lausanne 2:1 for their second win in a row, having previously lost four in a row. Mischa Ramel (4th) and Robert Leino (28th) scored the goals for the Zurich lowlanders to make it 2-0. The strong Kloten keeper Ewan Huet did not allow more than a deflection goal by Ahti Oksanen (47.). The head-to-head in the current championship is now 2:1 in favor of Kloten.
Next home win
In the four duels between Ambri-Piotta and Biel last season, there were only home wins. That has also been the case so far this season. Ambri took revenge with a 3-1 win for the 3-2 defeat on penalties in Biel on September 20. The Leventines fell behind in the 24th minute when Swedish defenseman Linus Hultström scored the first goal for the Seelanders. However, Dario Bürgler equalized for Ambri just 198 seconds later. The decisive 2:1 for the hosts was scored by Chris DiDomenico (55'), who was successful for the first time in the current championship. André Heim put the finishing touches on the game with a shot into an empty net six seconds before the end. Ambri won for the sixth time in the tenth game since the departures of coach Luca Cereda and sporting director Paolo Duca.
