FC Lugano deservedly win the top-of-the-table clash against Lucerne 2:0 and take over at the top of the National League. FC Zurich slipped further down the table with a 2-1 defeat at Sion.
In the duel between the two teams tied on points, the first runners-up to FC Basel, Lugano achieved a well-deserved victory. After a long unsuccessful run, it was Yanis Cimignani who broke the spell in the 67th minute.
After just one point from their last two games, the Ticino side took over the lead - at least until Sunday afternoon. FCB could then counter with a win against Lausanne. Lucerne, on the other hand, are suffering from a weakness on the road. They have now scored just one point from three games in the new year.
In Sion, Sion secured their first win of the calendar year against FC Zurich. Thanks to the 2:1 win, it was able to pull away from the trio at the bottom of the table. FCZ, on the other hand, are in danger of losing sight of the final round of the top six teams.
In the first half, the Valais side turned two chances into two goals, and FCZ, who were shockingly weak offensively, were unable to respond. They are now only three points ahead of Sion in 8th place.
