Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has parted company with coach Marco Rose. This was announced by the sixth-placed team in the table one day after the 1-0 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Rose took over at Leipzig at the beginning of September 2022. In his first season, he led the team to 3rd place in the table, while the East Germans finished 4th last season. Recently, however, the results left more than a little to be desired. Leipzig won just two of their last eleven league matches. In the group stage of the Champions League, only one win in eight games resulted. Only Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava have scored fewer points.
"We believed in the constellation with Marco and his team for a very long time and tried everything until the end to turn things around together. However, in view of the development and the lack of results, we are firmly convinced that we need a new impetus for the remaining games in order to achieve our goals for the season," Managing Director Sport Marcel Schäfer was quoted as saying in the club's official statement.
In addition to Rose, assistants Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck will also have to leave. No coach has been in charge at Leipzig longer than the 48-year-old.
