Loïc Meillard has a clear lead after the first run of the slalom at the season finale in Hafjell. Everything is wide open in the battle for the small globe ahead of the last run of the winter.

Last year's winner Meillard showed an outstanding performance with bib number 2 and took 0.67 seconds off Henrik Kristoffersen, who started ahead of him. The constellation at the top remained unchanged until the end of the first run. The Norwegian Timon Haugan in intermediate position 3 (+0.79 seconds) was the only one apart from his compatriot Kristoffersen to lose less than a second on the leader.

Positions 4 to 6 were lined up within 62 hundredths of a second of those skiers still in contention for the small crystal globe. Although Atle Lie McGrath is the lowest-ranked of the trio at the halfway point, he still has the best chance of overall victory. The Norwegian has a 41-point lead over his childhood friend Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (5th), who is competing for Brazil. Clément Noël (4th) would have to make up 77 points. Kristoffersen is 99 points behind and only has a theoretical chance of winning the globe.

Tanguy Nef is the second best of the Swiss quartet in 9th place, just over two seconds behind. Daniel Yule will start the second run at 1.30 p.m. a long way behind and therefore early. Junior World Champion Giuliano Fux faltered in his baptism of fire in the World Cup.
