Melanie Hasler has had enough of top-class sport. The 27-year-old from Aargau is surprisingly stepping down.

"I love bobsleigh. But there are too many things that make it difficult," she explains to the SRF Swiss Television internet portal. The decision was not easy for her. "Now that it's out and the moment of closure has come, it still hurts." The "Wohler Anzeiger" was the first media outlet to report on Hasler's departure.

Hasler made the decision public two months after her double victory at the European Championships in St. Moritz. In the Engadine, she won the title in both the two-man bobsleigh with push athlete Nadja Pasternack and the monobob. At the Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo in February, she came sixth in the two-man bobsleigh and fifth in the monobob.
