The Swiss speed skiers are taking it easy in the less informative final training session before the men's Olympic downhill on Saturday in Bormio (11.30 am).
The day after the dice were cast in the internal Swiss elimination process for the starting tickets for the men's Olympic downhill in Bormio, the top favorites Franjo von Allmen and Marco Odermatt lined up in 7th and 11th place, almost three and more than four seconds behind.
Alexis Monney also used the third session in difficult light conditions primarily for another quick inspection or for final material tests; after setting the best time in the third measurement, the man from Fribourg dropped out. Von Allmen concentrated on a single sector and was among the fastest in these.
The best time was set by Canadian James Crawford, who was one of only a few top athletes to pull through and took 1.68 seconds off second-placed Austrian Daniel Hemetsberger.
Among the athletes who decided to take a rest day 24 hours before the season highlight were Kitzbühel winner Giovanni Franzoni, Mattia Casse, the fastest on Thursday, and Stefan Rogentin. Rogentin had to prove himself the day before in the internal qualification and came out on top against Niels Hintermann.
