Marco Schwarz thwarts the second Swiss triple victory of the season at the World Cup premiere in Livigno. The Austrian leads the super-G ahead of Alexis Monney, Franjo von Allmen and Marco Odermatt.

After a cautious start, Monney put in an improved run on the Li Zeta course, which is not particularly demanding but has some tricky gates, leaving Franjo von Allmen five hundredths and fourth-placed Marco Odermatt nine hundredths behind. Loïc Meillard and Stefan Rogentin rounded off the strong Swiss team result two weeks after the triple victory in the giant slalom in Val d'Isère with 7th and 8th place.

At the top, Marco Schwarz was in a class of his own on the unfamiliar terrain in Livigno. Under a bright blue sky, the all-rounder from Carinthia, who has returned from a cruciate ligament rupture this season and found his way back to victory after two years in the giant slalom in Alta Badia before Christmas, distanced Monney by two tenths.

Odermatt missed out on his 17th World Cup victory and 28th podium place in the super-G with a mistake in the middle section. Because Vincent Kriechmayr, his first challenger in the battle to win the small crystal globe, was eliminated after setting the best intermediate times, Odermatt will nevertheless extend his lead in the discipline rankings. Despite a less than perfect run, the man from Nidwalden will finish in the top 7 in the super-G for the 28th time in a row (since March 2022).

Alongside Kriechmayr, Justin Murisier and Mathieu Bailet also missed out on a top result. Murisier was close to the podium with bib number 30 before the last intermediate time, while 29-year-old Frenchman Bailet was on a par with Schwarz at the last intermediate time before they dropped out.

The super-G in Livigno, where the freestyle competitions are being held at the Olympic Games, is a substitute for the Bormio races that normally take place after Christmas. These are missing from the World Cup calendar this year because the men's Olympic races take place on the Stelvio in February.

After Livigno, the speed skiers will enjoy a three-week break before the classics in Wengen and Kitzbühel in January. Until then, the technicians will still be challenged in Madonna di Campiglio (January 7) and Adelboden (January 10/11).
