The Swiss triathletes miss out on a medal in the mixed team competition. The team of Max Studer, Julie Derron, Sylvain Fridelance and Cathia Schär finished in 7th place.
At the halfway point of the race, the Swiss quartet was still in a promising third place. Derron, who had impressed in the individual race last Wednesday by winning the silver medal, handed over to Fridelance just five seconds behind the leader. But the man from Vaud, who had only been selected as a replacement on Sunday afternoon, lost three positions and a good 30 seconds, meaning that his chance of a medal had disappeared.
In the end, Schär still secured an Olympic diploma for the Swiss team, 1:37 minutes behind the leaders. The German quartet took gold in a three-way battle ahead of Great Britain and the USA.
