A penalty converted by Anto Grgic shortly before the break earned Lugano an important away point. Fousseni Diabaté had previously given Lausanne the lead. The Vaud side were closer to victory in the second half, but were unable to convert their chances into goals.
It was the first draw between the two teams since December 2020; in the 13 duels in between, there had always been one winner (five times Lausanne, eight times Lugano).
The hard-fought draw lifted the Ticino side into fourth place in the table, with Lausanne and Lucerne lurking just one point behind. The final round will decide who will finish fourth to sixth and play in Europe next season. The fourth-placed team will definitely play in a European Cup qualifier, while the fifth-placed team will have to hope that FC Basel win the cup final against third-tier FC Biel.
