Marco Odermatt clearly leads the giant slalom in Beaver Creek after 30 racers. The man from Nidwalden takes almost nine tenths and more from the competition.
The winner of Sölden put down a run with bib number 1, which the following athletes had their work cut out for them. The Norwegians Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, competing for Brazil, and his compatriot Henrik Kristoffersen lost the least time. They both lost 0.86 seconds on the leader.
As clear as Odermatt's lead is, the starting position behind the Olympic champion from Beijing is just as tight. Frenchman Thibaut Favrot and last year's winner Thomas Tumler are only five and eight hundredths respectively behind the duo in second place.
Loïc Meillard lost 1.23 seconds on the leader and has his sights firmly set on his first top 10 result in the seventh race of the season in 8th position. Luca Aerni (15th) is the fourth Swiss racer to qualify for the second run, which starts at 21:00.
