The world championship title in darts is to receive a significant financial boost. The International Darts Federation is doubling the prize money to one million pounds (around 1.14 million Swiss francs).

In addition to the prize money, which will be doubled not only for the winner but for all players, the field of participants will also be increased from 96 to 128 players. This means that there are no more free draws for the top 32 players in the first round.
The venue for the World Championship is the Alexandra Palace, better known as the "Ally Pally", in London from mid-December to the beginning of January.
