Dominik Paris is well on his way to winning the downhill for the fourth time in Kvitfjell. Behind the Italian, Marco Odermatt and Stefan Rogentin are on course for the podium in Garmisch.
Odermatt lost 32 hundredths to Paris in the first of two downhill races in the Norwegian resort, Rogentin 63. World champions Franjo von Allmen and Alexis Monney took 4th and 5th place directly behind the podium finishers.
Paris made the difference in the middle section, where none of his competitors even came close to the 35-year-old veteran's time. Even at the bottom, no one was faster than the speed specialist, who is already the record winner on the Olympic downhill course with three downhill triumphs.
Marco Odermatt came closest to Paris. At his sixth attempt, the man from Nidwalden should be on the downhill podium in Kvitfjell for the first time. As Franjo von Allmen lost a lot of time in the upper section after a mistake and did not make it past 4th place, the 27-year-old will extend his lead in the discipline rankings to more than 100 points with two races still to go.
Odermatt is also taking a big step towards the big crystal globe in the overall World Cup. If he remains in 2nd place, he will have a 440-point lead over Henrik Kristoffersen with eight races to go. The Norwegian technician only has two giant slaloms and two slaloms left, but theoretically also has the opportunity to compete in the speed races.
Stefan Rogentin is well on his way to his first downhill podium. The 30-year-old from Graubünden showed an unspectacular but good run with bib number 4. His best downhill result to date was an 8th place, achieved three years ago in Wengen.
Alexis Monney completed another outstanding Swiss result with four racers in the top five positions. Justin Murisier (15th) and Lars Rösti (16th) also finished in the top 20, with Marco Kohler in 25th place.
