It is now clear: Patrick Fischer is stepping down as Swiss national ice hockey coach at the end of the season.
Exactly ten years to the day after his appointment, the 50-year-old announced at a Swiss Ice Federation media conference on Wednesday that he would not be renewing his expiring contract.
This marks the end of the most successful era of a Swiss national team coach after the home World Championships next May. Under Fischer as head coach, Switzerland reached the World Championship final in 2018, 2024 and 2025.
