After a 56 km solo, the Dane took victory for the third time after 2020 and 2024 in the style of his rivals Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel. They had celebrated similar Classics victories in previous years.

Pedersen, who is also an excellent sprinter, won the World Tour event after 250.3 km with a lead of 49 seconds ahead of the Belgian European champion Tim Merlier and the Italian Jonathan Milan. Stefan Bissegger finished 29th with the same gap. Pogacar and Van der Poel were not at the start.

For Pedersen, who has already celebrated stage victories in all three major tours, it was the 50th professional victory of his career. In this condition, the 29-year-old is a contender for victory, especially in the cobbled classic Paris-Roubaix in two weeks' time.
