On Saturday, Regez celebrated his first World Cup victory in three years on the same course. This time, the 32-year-old did not quite make it to the front. The Canadian Reece Howden came out on top ahead of the Italian Simone Deromedis and Regez, who was on a par with the two at the start of the race but ultimately fell back after losing speed.

Alex Fiva, who had surprisingly finished second behind Regez on Saturday, was unable to repeat his coup and was eliminated in the round of 16. The best Swiss rider behind Regez was Tobias Baur in eighth place.

Smith back after a lightning start

In the women's event, Fanny Smith was able to celebrate her 79th podium finish in the World Cup. After missing out on the final in fifth place on Saturday, the 32-year-old made it into the battle for victory this time. And after a good start, Smith seemed to be well on her way, but was overtaken by Italy's Jole Galli and France's Marielle Berger Sabbatel.
